After what feels like a long and cold winter, the prospects of warmer weather and long, sunny days is something which we are all looking forward to. This month we bring you a wine which is fruity and fun – a perfect summer drinking wine. All we need now is the weather!
About the vineyard
From winemaker Paul Mas, the ‘Arrogant Frog’ is the mascot of the estates. The ‘humble’ winemaker shows that with creativity, know-how and a good sense of humour, it is possible to make Southern French wines shine around the world and give pure pleasure, at a reasonable price!
Arrogant Frog represents our South of France “Art de Vivre”. Château Arrogant Frog covers 50 acres in the Limoux grand cru. The Arrogant Frog cuvées include Château Arrogant Frog, Arrogant Frog reserve, as well as single varietal and blends.
About the grapes
This rosé is a blend of Grenache 50%, Cinsault 30%, Syrah 20%. Grenache grapes are generally spicy, berry-flavoured and soft on the palate, with notes of strawberry and raspberry, and a white pepper spice. They ripen later in the season and need hot, dry climates.
Syrah grapes grown in southern France produce medium to full-bodied wines with medium levels of tannins and notes of blackberry, mint and black pepper.
Cinsault grapes are also tolerant of very high temperatures which makes them the perfect grapes to grow in southern France. These grapes are widely used in Provence rose wines, as their lighter skins and soft perfume are ideal for rosés.
Blended together, these grapes make a beautiful pink, almost cherry coloured wine, which is perfect for summer drinking.
Tasting notes
On the nose, this wine is complex with cherries, toffee and floral aromas evolving toward soft candied fruit notes. On the palate it is rich, smooth, and well balanced. Its fruity character has a long finish.
Food pairing
This wine is best served with light dishes, grilled meat, salads, sausages, white meat, pasta “alla carbonara”, and soft cheeses.
