According to Alberto, arriving in this beautiful, isolated, uncontaminated region is like stepping back a few centuries in time. It is one of Italy’s least explored areas, but it produces exciting wines. The low-trained vineyards are planted on the slopes of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano, at elevations of up to 800 metres above sea level. Here, the volcanic soils are rich in clay and limestone, and many of the vines are over 80 years old. As a result, the wines made from these sites are distinctive, with marked minerality and vibrant acidity.
 
The ‘Pipoli’ Aglianico del Vulture has excellent colour, with spicy fruit on the nose complemented by lovely elegance and balance on the palate.
