Château Le Crock is a ‘Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel’ property in Saint-Estèphe, sandwiched between Second Growths Château Montrose and Château Cos d‘Estournel. Owned by the Cuvelier family since 1903, the property benefits from the same scrupulous management as their other family estates, Château Léoville Poyferré and Château Moulin Riche. Chief oenologist Isabelle Davin oversees the winemaking at all three.
The vineyards of Château Le Crock comprise 32 hectares of gravel over clay soils and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The sustainably farmed vines have an average age of 40 years and will be certified organic from the 2024 vintage. The grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted before being fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel, and concrete tanks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels (of which 33% are new) for 18 months. The resulting wine has excellent depth, with blackberries, plums, tobacco, and dark chocolate notes wrapped by fine-grained tannins and lifted by vibrant acidity.
