So, we’re finally entering spring and people are starting to come out of hibernation! While everyone has been willing the winter away, we’ve been busy hunting down the best value wines that the world can offer.

We are pleased to announce that Helmsley Wines are now exclusive UK merchants of the wines from the Cru Bourgeois Chateau Rouselle and Famille Doublet Chateau Vignol, and now stock their full range of beautiful wines.

About Chateau Rousselle, Bordeaux:

Located only a few hundreds of meters from Gironde Estuary, among the hills which line the right bank between Blaye and Bourg, Château Rousselle lies in the heart of Bordeaux country.

.

The Chateau has been producing quality wine since at least 1638. Its wines were classified in 1868 as Cru Bourgeois, which is the highest level of classification of the AOC. Over the years the Chateau has changed hands several times and is now owned by Lemaitre family who purchased the Chateau for the good terroir, old vines and buildings. It is a Chateau that you would truly fall in love with if you visited.

Chateau Rousselle have 23 hectares of vineyards growing mainly Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc on vines which average 40 years old. The majority of the vines are spread across the territory of three villages: Saint Ciers de Canesse, Villeneuve and Saint Seurin de Bourg.

The Wines:

Chateau Rouselle Haut Vigneau , Bordeaux, 2014
85% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon et 5% cabernet franc. Great full bodied merlot blend with aromas of matured fruits – raspberry, strawberry, blueberry – with subtle oak tones and mineral notes. In the mouth, Château Haut Vigneau is a warm, round, soft and rich with a long silky finish. This wine goes perfectly with white meat, grilled meat and cheese.

Chateau Rouselle Tradition, Cotes de Bourg,Bordeaux, 2014
75% merlot, 20% cabernet sauvignon, 3% malbec and 2% cabernet franc. This lovely wine is perfectly balanced and has layers of fruit on the palate such as – raspberry, blueberry, cherry – which just grow and grow whilst a subtle hint of oak and liquorice linger on the palate. This wine has the legs of a racehorse and is ready to drink now or will improve with further ageing in the bottle. Great with all food but especially red or white meat, fleshy fish or any cheese.

Chateau Rouselle Prestige, Cotes de Bourg, Bordeaux, 2012
10% malbec, 85% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. Average age: 45 years old. PRESTIGE has a deep garnet-red colour. It has strong expressions of fruits, it is extraordinarily well-balanced with rich wood tones. The aromas of black fruits, blackberry, cherry, morello cherry and blackcurrant, harmonize with floral hints of malbec, especially violet. The wood also gives flavours of toast, vanilla, spices. It will go perfectly with all meat including with game, spicy meat, strong cheese. Will age for many more years.

Chateau Rouselle Haut Bel Air, Bordeaux 2013
90% merlot, 10% Malbec. Slopes of limestone covered by brown clay. 12 months in French oak
This red wine from Rouselle has all the characteristics you would expect from a good Bordeaux at the £25 – £30 price mark. It is a full bodied red brimming with red and black fruit aromas whilst the silky tannins and subtle oak notes allow the wines mineral notes to flow through. Enjoy with steak or a plate full of cheese. Top value for money.

Chateau Rouselle Le Soif De Vincent ,Bordeaux,2014
90% Merlot, 10% Malbec. This wine is an explosion of fruit. Aromas of red fruit – raspberry, strawberry, cherry – harmonize with smooth tonalities of arbutus berry, bush peach, mango, lychee. Malbec fully expresses its floral hints of violet and poppy, with a touch of saffron. Very Versatile wine that complements most meat dishes. The smooth tannins allow you to chill this down to enjoy with salad in the summer.

About Famille Doublet, Bordeaux:

Stemming from a great line of mariners, the Famille Doublet have been based in their Bordeaux vineyard since the end of the 18th century and have devoted themselves to the culture of the vine and the wine.

.

Famille Doublet produce wines at the vineyards of Chateau Vignol based in the valleys of Entre-Deux-Mers, and Chateau Tour de Calens which is located on the left bank of the Garonne, both in the Bordeaux region.

Chateau Vignol, Entre Deux Mers, Bordeaux 2015
Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Sémillon and Muscadelle. From three generations of the Doublet family, who own the Louisiana Styled house near Saint-Quentin-de-Baron, they’ve produced a nice refreshing and pleasurable wine. This wine is Fresh and zippy, herbal and fruity, this is a lively, fine value, easy sipping, oak-free sauvignon blanc blend.

Chateau Tour de Calons, Graves Blanc, Bordeaux 2013
Sauvignon Blanc, Semillion. The Concours General Agricole Paris awarded the 2013 vintage Gold.
This stunning wine has a lovely golden colour. On the Nose it is full of honey notes, grassy and has good minerality. The palate is full of honey, vanilla and has silky sweet smooth tannins that seem to linger all night long. Enjoy on its own or with Chicken or fish. This is a wine not to miss out on!!!

Chateau Vignol Rose, Bordeaux 2016
This totally refreshing rose is crisp, lively and packed with acidity as well as red currant fruits. It’s a delicious wine and a fine apéritif from the Doublet family in Entre-deux-Mers. The perfect summer wine at an affordable price.

Chateau Vignol Clairet, Bordeaux, 2016
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot. “Clairet” is a light red wine: more coloured, more flexible, aromatic, richer than Rosé. The Clairet is a wine full of fruit flavours, it has the body of a red wine with less tannins and much more flavours. It is a wine designed to drink young and is great with Pizza, charcuteries, pork or slightly chilled with salad on a warm day.
